Buzz Session - Never going to keep me down!

This Buzz Session is all about standing up to "it" (whatever that "it" is for you). It's about listening to that voice that tells you "don't give up now" or finding your voice to tell others what you need. It's also about taking care of yourself, and others, in the process.

Enter Annie Enneking - actor, stage combat expert, musician - as she leads us through a unique session at the renowned Guthrie Theater. She will lead us through a "contest of generosity" as you experience the unique art of stage combat. You will learn fun and basic stage techniques of choreography for a convincing slap, punch and fall. This is an on-your-feet experience with safeguards and watchful instruction designed to ensure that no one gets hurt. Annie will also share her story of her unconventional multi-faced career - hers is no typical office job.

While what you learn will be "just theater" you never know what strength it will give you........especially when surrounded by other women.

Buzz Session: Art Journal Your Future

  • The Rachel Greenhouse Strategic Marketing Agency (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

If your idea of "art" these days is slapping on some lipstick, co-drawing a stickperson with your 5 year old, or getting crazy with PowerPoint clip-art at work - don't panic - you don't have to be an artist to art journal.

Art journaling is a fun and creative way to get your thoughts and emotions down on paper, combining a little bit of writing with a little bit of "arting".

Let's face it, the last time many of us sat still for more than an hour was when we were sleeping or binge-watching/dozing off to Netflix. (Hey, nothing wrong with a bit of Jack Bauer/GOT/Crown action). However, if we're really going to get serious about getting what's inside us OUT, we need to sit with it for a bit. We need to doodle, mess around, talk with others, make a mess, get comfortable with what we've put out there.

So, give yourself some time. Come and join likeminded women as we visualize what matters most to us - and how we translate that into a new path.

This workshop will be led by DeAnne Olguin Williamson, a Californian artist now living in Minnesota.

Read DeAnne's story here, and check out her art here

All supplies, snacks and beverages will be provided. (Don't wear anything you wouldn't want to accidentally get paint on.)

Women's March on Minnesota - Brunch + March with Friends!

Why are we marching? As we start 2017 with hope and determination to see positive change in the world, we feel we have to come together with those who want the same - to be seen, heard, and to know we are doing all we can to help make change happen. We cannot stand by and hope others will do the work for us. It's up to us to stand up and voice what we want the future to be.

This is not the time to sit on the couch, stay warm and watch others act! Every woman counts.

Holiday Even-Happier-Hour

Has it really been a year? Come together and celebrate our amazing successes, commiserate over the not-quite-so awesome moments (we've all had 'em), meet women who've made big changes and those who are still working on their plans.

Last year, women who came to our Even-Happier-Hour made new friends, business connections and found mentors. It's amazing what a few hours, a few drinks and a few like-minded women can accomplish!

If you haven't been to Betty Danger's Country Club in Minneapolis, have no fear, it is not your average Country Club. Think of it as a creative sparkly bad-ass destination with a ferris wheel and crazy cocktails. Where people can be themselves, have a personality and meet others who want to be different.

The first ten to show up will get a free cocktail - so stop by, say hi, and walk away with a spark that may just help you change something in your life.

Buzz Session: Just say yes!

Saying "yes" is the new "saying no" - come on, really? (yeah, really).

Inspired by Shonda Rhimes' bestseller "The Year of Yes" we'll hear from three women who've all had "yes" change their paths.

Heather Gay - Teacher, PhD student and Minnesota Rollergirl
Molly Keeler - Fitness Trainer and movement maker
Trish Cook - Mom and stand up comic

Space is limited for this one - register here

---------

More details:

Why do so many of us say "no" to things that may open up new adventures or opportunities? What holds us back? Aren't we busy enough without saying yes more? And what is it like to say yes and for good things to actually happen?

Moderated by professional coach Allison Ballou, this event will hear from 3 women who have said "yes" to doing something different. You'll also have the chance to create your "yes" list and meet other women who are planning the next step in their journey.

We'll have wine and snacks to welcome you, TWO gorgeous shopping pop-ups (India Hicks and J.Lux Jewelry) then afterwards we'll head next door to The Draft Horse for Happy Hour part deux!

So - join us! Make new connections, share ideas, kickstart your journey.

----

The Food Building in Minneapolis is a hub of food entrepreneurialism. The brainchild of Kieran Folliard (who immortalized his two female heroes in his national  2 Gingers whiskey brand), it's home to several MN food businesses - all of which are created from the heart. Red Table Meat Company (proper meat, anyone?) The Lone Grazer (locally made cheese, actually tastes of something), The Draft Horse (cafe with to-die-for sandwiches and crisps) and Bakers Field (local flour and bread, without the chemical crap).

We love this place because when you enter it, you feel the energy of "new". You want to change, participate, DO something.

We'll be there, on June 7. Join us!

Buzz Session: Fitness: more than the numbers

"Buzz Sessions" are get-togethers focused on helping you with your path, whether that's career, hobby or health focused, or simply to have fun.

When we feel good, we feel more motivated to act.

It sounds so good in theory!

Problem is, we tend to focus on the numbers on the scale, the distance, the speed or even what we're supposed to wear. When we don't "achieve" what we think we're supposed to, or look the way others do, we get demotivated.

So, what if we focused on how we felt, and viewed that as an accomplishment?

This session will be hosted by the good people at GEAR and sponsored by women's activewear brand Oiselle and KIND!

Paul Horan, GEAR's owner gave up his day job to chase his passion a few years ago - owning a running store. He'll take us through the basics of running and give some tips for how to improve form.

Olivia Klinker is GEAR's store manager, fitness trainer and nutrition expert. She'll share tips on what to focus on when you're trying to make a change in your routine.

After the knowledge comes action.....Paul and Olivia will lead us in a short workout ..so come with your sneakers on! (We'll provide beverage and KIND bars so you'll have plenty of fuel.)

Who is this session for?

  • If you want to get healthier and need inspiration to start.
  • If you're someone who runs (fast or slow, long or short), this session will help you remember the basics and improve your form.
  • If running strikes the fear of god into you, yet you secretly want to see if you can do it (or think you "must") then come and try it out. You never know, you may just like it.
  • You just want to make some new friends and have fun...

This is a FREE event, however in the spirit of women helping women we will gratefully accept donations for Ascension Place, the Minneapolis organization that helps women in crisis or transition. Come with a dollar or twenty - whatever works for you.

Buzz Session: Finding your true confidence

"Buzz Sessions" are get-togethers focused on helping you with your path, whether that's career, hobby or health focused, or simply to have fun.

We’re told to “fake it till we make it,” “power pose,” or “dress for success”. How do we know what theory to go with? And what’s the best way to find confidence while being true to ourselves, and not messing it up as we go along?

This presentation, hosted by Twin Cities professional coach Allison Ballou, will talk openly about how to apply the principles of Emotional Intelligence and Neuroscience so that you can begin to shape your own version of “confidence”.

Registration now open! Click here to RSVP.

We've all been affected by the stories of the refugees needing shelter and starting a new life away from turmoil. That's why, all profits from this event will be donated to the International Institute of Minnesota's refugee resettlement program. You can learn more about their work here: http://www.iimn.org/

Find out more about Allison's journey here. (Anyone who talks about rainbows and butterflies is fine with us!...)

Holiday Hurrah!

Let's celebrate!

It's been an incredible year, we've all done amazing things. Let's celebrate in style at one of Minneapolis' most creative meeting places and billed "one of the most anticipated distilleries in Minnesota".

Tattersall is  a craft distillery founded by Dan Oskey - ex-Strip Club cocktail maestro famously quoted as saying "life is too short to drink crap" and his childhood Jon Krieidler (who quit his high-powered job in finance to retrain in distilling). Together, they're rekindling a love for crafted cocktails in an unpretentious atmosphere.

Event details:

Where? Tattersall Cocktail Room, 1620 Central Avenue Northeast, Minneapolis, MN 55413.

Time: 5pm til ........

Cost: We'll provide the snacks, we ask that guest buy their own yummy cocktails.

Dress code: Tattersall is "industrial casual chic" (as someone told us). But heck, it's the holidays, so be sure to wear something SPARKLY! :)

We hope to see you there!
